AIR SAGE (c, 3, Point of Entry –Nokaze, by Empire Maker) became the seventh winner from as many Japanese starters for his sire with a popular first-out success. The 13-10 favorite jumped away alertly and landed in a prominent position, siting a three-wide trip in the breeze. Put to some pressure approaching the stretch, Air Sage looked to be getting out a touch, but was soon rebalanced, delivered his challenge in earnest with a little less than a furlong to travel and edged away late to graduate by 1 1/2 lengths. The winner is a half-brother to Air Almas (Majestic Warrior), GSW-Jpn, $1,549,717, a 2-year-old full-brother and a yearling half-brother by Goldencents. Nokaze was most recently bred to Blame. The colt’s third dam Angelic Song (Halo) was a ful-sister to Canadian Horse of the Year Glorious Song, champion Devil’s Bag and Saint Ballado. Her MSW daughter Lady Ballade (Ire) (Unbridled) produced GSW & MG1SP sire Danon Ballade (Jpn) (Deep Impact {Jpn}). Of Point of Entry’s Japanese winners, four have been bred or co-bred by Dr. Naoya Yoshida’s Winchester Farm. Lifetime Record: 1-1-0-0, $58,252.
