Kentucky-foaled and raised AIR ALMAS won the G2 Tokai Stakes at Kyoto Race Course in Japan on Sunday for his owners and breeders, Lucky Field Company.
Born at Winchester Farm in Lexington, KY, AIR ALMAS moved to Wavertree Stables in Ocala, Florida as a yearling to begin his pre-training education before shipping to Japan to race. The first foal out of the EMPIRE MAKER mare NOKAZE, AIR ALMAS hails from the deep female family that produced G1 winners GLORIOUS SONG, DEVIL’S BAG and SLIGO BAY as well as important sires SAINT BALLADO (in the US) and DANON BALLADE (in Japan).
NOKAZE herself was bred and raced by Lucky Field Company, who had purchased a season to EMPIRE MAKER for their mare MACARENA MACARENA at the Thoroughbred Charities of America Kentucky Stallion Seasons Auction. NOKAZE is also a half sister to YUZURU (by MEDAGLIA D’ORO), winner of the Forever Together Stakes at Delaware Park. (photo credit – Tomoya Moriuchi)
