1st-Del Mar, $60,690, Msw, 8-18, 2yo, f, 6f, 1:11.21, ft. SPLASHY KISSES (f, 2, Blame–Indian Valley, by Cherokee Run) drew the fence for her July 17 debut and looked beaten when steadying into the stretch before finishing a distant eighth to ‘TDN Rising Star’ Brill (Medaglia d’Oro) and subsequent GSP Del Mar May (Jimmy Creed).
Backed into 7-1 from a morning line of 10-1 with a significant upgrade in the saddle to the visiting Joel Rosario, Splashy Kisses broke alertly and had to do some work, but led after a furlong as favored True Validity (Yes It’s True) prompted from the outside. More or less on even terms entering the stretch, Splashy Kisses found more as the chalk backed out of it abruptly and charged home a 5 3/4-length winner. First-starter Madame Vestal (Into Mischief) split horses late to be second at 20-1.
Out of a half-sister to Chhaya Dance (A.P. Indy)–the SW full-brother to GI Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies winner Tempera–Splashy Kisses is kin to a colt foal by Street Boss. Indian Valley was most recently covered by Point of Entry.
